Repair or replace check
Should You Repair or Replace Your AC?
Answer five quick questions about your air conditioner. You will see whether a repair still makes sense or it is time to plan an AC replacement.
This check is a guide, not a quote. The final call depends on what we find when we inspect the system.
When it is time
Signs You Need a New Air Conditioner
Nobody wants to replace an AC before they have to. These are the signs that a new air conditioning system will cost you less than keeping the old one running.
The System Is Past 10 to 12 Years
In South Florida an AC runs most of the year, so it wears out sooner than the same unit up north.
Repairs Keep Adding Up
More than one repair in a season usually means other parts are close behind.
It Still Uses R-22 Refrigerant
R-22 is no longer produced in the United States, so fixing a leak on an older system gets expensive fast.
Electric Bills Keep Climbing
An aging system uses more power to deliver the same cooling it used to.
It Runs All Day and the House Stays Humid
A system that cannot keep up or pull moisture out of the air is at the end of its useful life.
Rust and Corrosion on the Unit
Salt air eats condenser coils and cabinets. Once the coil is leaking, replacement is often the better value.
Before we install anything
How We Size Your New AC System
Most problems with a new air conditioner start before installation day. A unit that is too big cools the house fast, shuts off and leaves the humidity behind. One that is too small never stops running.
That is why we do not pick the size from the square footage or from the label on the old unit. We look at the home, the ductwork and how you use the space, then recommend the system that fits.
Load Calculation
We calculate how much cooling your home needs based on its size, insulation, windows and sun exposure.
Ductwork and Airflow Check
We check your existing ducts and returns and tell you if anything needs attention before the new system goes in.
Electrical and Drain Line
We confirm the breaker, the disconnect and the condensate drain are right for the new equipment.
Efficiency and Budget
We explain the SEER2 ratings and give you options, so you choose the balance of upfront cost and monthly bill.
Installation day
What to Expect During Your AC Installation
Most residential AC replacements are finished in one day. This is how an air conditioning installation goes from start to finish.
We Protect the Work Area
Floors and the area around the air handler are covered before any equipment moves.
The Old System Comes Out
We recover the refrigerant the right way, disconnect the old AC unit and haul it away.
The New System Goes In
We set the new condenser outside and the matching air handler inside.
Lines, Drain and Power
Refrigerant lines, the condensate drain and the electrical connections are installed and checked for leaks.
Start-Up and Testing
We charge the system, start it up and measure temperatures and airflow to confirm it is performing.
Walk-Through With You
We show you the new thermostat, the filter and what to expect, and we leave the area clean.
What we install
New AC Systems We Install
We replace existing systems and handle new AC installation for homes, additions and small commercial spaces that need one.
Central Air Conditioners
Split systems with an outdoor condenser and an indoor air handler, the most common setup in South Florida homes.
Heat Pump Systems
One system that cools all summer and heats on the few cold nights, without a separate heater.
Air Handlers and Matched Systems
We replace the indoor and outdoor units as a matched pair so the system reaches its rated efficiency.

Not ready to replace?
Sometimes a Repair Is the Right Answer
We will not sell you a new air conditioner you do not need. If the system is under ten years old and the problem is a capacitor, a fan motor or a drain line, an AC repair is the better use of your money.
And once the new system is in, protect it. A yearly AC maintenance visit keeps the coils clean and the drain line clear, and many manufacturers ask for proof of maintenance to honor the warranty.

Is an AC replacement the same as an AC installation?
A replacement swaps an existing system for a new one. An installation also covers putting in a system where there was none before, such as an addition. The work is similar and we do both.
How long does it take to replace an air conditioner?
Most residential AC replacements are finished in one day. If the job needs extra work, we tell you before we start.
How much does a new AC system cost?
It depends on the size of the system, its efficiency rating, the brand and the condition of what is already in the home. We look at the home first and give you the full price before any work starts.
Should I buy the biggest air conditioner I can?
No. An oversized AC cools the house quickly, shuts off and leaves the humidity in the air. It also starts and stops more often, which wears it out sooner. The right size comes from a load calculation.
Can I replace only the outdoor unit?
In most cases, no. The outdoor unit and the indoor air handler are designed to work as a matched pair. Mixing an old one with a new one lowers efficiency and can affect the warranty.
What does SEER2 mean?
SEER2 is the efficiency rating for air conditioners. A higher number means the system uses less electricity to deliver the same cooling. We show you options at different ratings so you can compare.
When is the best time to replace an AC?
Before it fails. Replacing a system that is still running gives you time to compare options instead of deciding in the middle of a summer breakdown.
